Bellmore Merrick Democratic Club Update February 2017

Bellmore Merrick Democratic Club president, Claudia Borecky, sums up the recent activity of the BMDC with the following statement; I’m inspired by the passion and commitment of local Democrats in standing up and refusing to remain silent. We marched in Washington and NYC. We marched in front of Senator Schumer's office as well as Congressman King's office. We stood up for healthcare at Congresspersons Rice and Suozzi's forum and we've called and petitioned resistance to the GOP agenda - almost daily.

We've rallied with LI Clean Air Water & Soil on environmental issues; with Move On and LIPC on social justice issues; and with LI Activists and Together We Will LI on resisting the GOP agenda of hate. Our Stronger Together Agenda is committed to uniting with all progressive groups

We will be supporting candidates this year in the County executive, clerk, comptroller and four legislative races in the Bellmore, Merrick, Wantagh and Seaford communities; and the Town of Hempstead supervisor, receiver of taxes, clerk and councilperson race in the Bellmore, Merrick, Wantagh and Seaford communities north of Camp Avenue.

We are currently discussing Democratic committee positions in the Bellmore, Merrick, Wantagh and Seaford communities.  If you would like more information about what's involved with becoming a committee person, please email me at

We formed a South Shore Women’s Caucus and have already outgrown Panera Bread's community room so our next meeting will be held at the Merrick Golf Course Clubhouse. Please check our events tab for upcoming meetings.

We have a lot of work ahead of us. There is a growing revolution here in Nassau County. The GOP machine is beginning to break down. Working together, we will win the elections in November 2017 and 2018.

We'd like to welcome those who came to our meeting for the first time and thank those who continue to stand with us in resisting this presidency. I am proud that in our little corner of the world, the Bellmore Merrick Democratic Club is standing up, fighting back and moving forward.  For those who were unable to attend our meeting on Thursday night, please read:

It has became apparent that our social media team needs to grow. No one person can keep up with it all. Several people expressed interest in helping us out. Please "Friend and Private Message Claudia Borecky" on
Facebook so that we can discuss it further. Please make sure you "Like" and "Follow" the Bellmore-Merrick Democratic Club and South Shore Womens Caucus pages.  We are also on Twitter, click the Twitter icon at the top of this page to visit our Twitter feed.  Make sure to "follow" us for updates.

We discussed borrowing from Michael Moore's Rapid Respose Team to make sure we can act quickly when needed.  Please let me know if you are interested on being on that team. For those who want to know what action is being taken locally, suggestions were made to Text: 668366, put in your zip code and daily and weekly local action will be posted.

Thanks to Rich Levow, our  website is now "live". Please check it out and let us have your suggestions. I designed a site for our new women's group:  I could use help with maintaining/updating the site. Thank you.Democracy in Action
